Peter Donohoe

7:30pm Morpeth Methodist Church

Morpeth Music Society present Peter Donohoe

The society is delighted to welcome pianist Peter Donohoe to open our 75th season.  Peter established himself as an international name when he won the silver medal at the 1982 Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow.  His most recent triumph in the North East was in 2016 when he stepped in, on the same day, to substitute for an unwell Lars Vogt to play a magnificent performance of Beethoven's Emperor concerto (without rehearsal!) at the Sage Gateshead.

Peter has chosen a firmly classical programme for us featuring Schumann's Toccata Op. 7 which the composer claimed to be the 'hardest piece ever written' at the time of completion followed by the calmer Arabesque.  The highlight of the programme is likely to be Tchaikovsky's imposing second piano sonata, published after the composer's death.

  • Haydn Sonata in C major Hob. 48
  • Beethoven  Sonata in A major Op. 101
  • Schumann Toccata Op. 7
  • Schumann Arabesque Op.18

Tchaikovsky Sonata in C sharp minor No 2 Op. 80

Tickets (!8) will be available from 1st September - both on-line and in person from the church and Morpeth Tourist Information Centre). Any remaining tickets will be available on the door, but it is expected that this concert will sell out.

If you are interested in this concert, why not consider buying a season ticket - works out at 11.50 per concert - and support the society! Find out more on the website www.morpeth-musoc.org.uk
