Morpeth: Suffrage Exploration Workshop

12 Dec 2018

12:15 - 2:45pm Morpeth Chantry

Who were the first women in your family/community to be able to vote in 1918?

What do you know about Suffragists and Suffragettes?

What questions do you have about women's suffrage?

Abbott Dance Theatre and Emily Inspires invite you to explore these questions in a fun and interactive workshop.

Its free to come along, all that is required is for you to be curious about your own history, your community and the impact of women's suffrage in both - then and now.

To get the most out of your experience, it would be great if you could bring:
* Any photographs/information/stories you have of older generations of your family/community who may or may not have been involved in the suffrage movements.
* Some thinking about who the first women to vote in your family might have been.
* Any questions you have about the suffrage movements.
* Comfortable clothing, water to drink, and most importantly curiosity!

If you would like further information about this workshop, or have any access needs in order to attend, please contact Penni (Emily Inspires!):

"Fascinating insight into women's suffrage and the fight for the vote. Penni brought this subject to life and I learned a lot about my own ancestors in relation to this important heritage." - Newcastle Workshop, October 2018.

The conversations and explorations that take place during this workshop will contribute to the narrative and choreography of Abbott Dance Theatre's Deeds Not Words, a dance theatre performance, commemorating women's suffrage, touring the North East and beyond from November 2018 to May 2019.

This workshop is made possible with support from Heritage Lottery Fund.
