The Annual Morpeth Food & Drink Festival

On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October the festival will see over 100 traders located on Bridge Street, Morpeth, selling quality local produce and crafts catering to all with a Vegan area, Farmers market, Street Food Quarter and a Posh Pen drinking area. 

The Seventh Annual Morpeth Food and Drink Festival - Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October 2019. 

* New to 2019 - Vegan Area *

Well over 100 stalls are booked including local food producers, street food, the farmers market, the "posh pen" [alcohol-serving area] and the vegan hall

Demo Kitchen

The full programme of chefs on the demo kitchen over the two days has just been released:

Saturday 5th  October 

  • 10am-11am Imogen Roth - Healthy Prep Kitchen
  • 11am-12pm Dan Suggate - Barluga 
  • 12pm-1pm Lorna Robertson - Masterchef Finalist
  • 1pm-2pm Martin Charlton - The Old Boat House
  •  2pm-3pm Tom Smith - Head Brewer at Muckle Brewing
  • 3pm – 4pm  Silver Sheldon - Hadrians Game Larder

Sunday 6th October 

  •  10am – 11am - Wilmer Carcamo (NMTF Young [Groceries] Trader of the Year) - Caribe Coffee 
  •  11am – 12pm  - Bev Stephenson, North Chocolates 
  •  12pm-1pm Lorna Robertson,  Masterchef Finalist
  •  1pm-2pm Martin Charlton - The Old Boat House
  •  2pm-3pm Anna Hedworth - Cook House 

2019  sees the Kitchen welcome back: Masterchef Finalist Lorna Robertson, The Old Boat House Chef Martin Charlton, Chocolatier Bev Stephenson from North Chocolates, and Head Brewer Tom Smith from Muckle Brewing as well as welcoming some new faces!

One of the new chefs this year is Anna Hedworth from Cook House, an award-winning restaurant whose cookery book, ‘Recipes and Stories from Cook House’ has just been published. On the Sunday, Anna will also be in Waterstones at Sanderson Arcade for a meet and greet from 11am – 12.30pm before going on to the Demo Kitchen from 2pm.

Other new chefs for 2019 include Silver Sheldon from Hadrians Game Larder and Wilmer Carcamo from Caribe Coffee, both regular traders to the monthly Morpeth Farmers’ Market. Wilmer will be kicking off the Sunday demo kitchen at 11am with the ultimate coffee chat and tasters. 

Vegan Area

The brand-new Vegan area will launch at this year’s festival and will be located opposite the Town Hall, bringing Vegan friendly baked goods from Bake for the Soul, The Naked Foodie and The Lily Tree Bakery. Authentic vegan street food traders, Parallel7, will also be there serving delicious vegan meals. 

Morpeth’s very own vegan cafe, Healthy Prep Kitchen are set to host a pop-up event in Mint Velvet. They will also be kicking off the cooking demonstrations at the demo kitchen on Saturday 5th October at 10am. 

Farmers Market

The monthly Farmers Market will run in its usual spot in the Market Place and will feature favourite Morpeth traders including Geordie Bangers, Bread & Roses and Murphy’s Kitchen. The Morpeth Farmers’ Market takes place every first Saturday of the month. 

Well over a hundred traders..

This year’s festival will bring a host of many traders to the town, selling everything from brownies and other baked goods to local cheeses and meats. Cookie Freaks, Brownie Bar and North Chocolates are amongst some of the traders selling sweet treats, as well as Sanderson Arcade’s own Pudding Parlour. 

The Cheese Board and Northumbrian Sausage Company will be providing the very best local meats and cheeses. The last slot on Sunday at the demo kitchen is the fantastic chef Silver Shelden of Hadrians Game Larder teaching attendees all about game. Pie Demand, Northumbrian Smokehouse and Urban Bakery will be serving local savoury favourites.

Located towards the bottom of Bridge Street will be the Street Food Quarter serving everything on-the-go from freshly made waffles from The Waffle Co, to gourmet sandwiches from Hatch 76.

Posh Pen

The festival’s secluded drinking area, the Posh Pen, will be located next to the Street Food Quarter and is the perfect place for an afternoon tipple. This year’s Posh Pen traders are The Merry Mare and The Little Gin Pot which will open at 11am on Saturday 5th October. 

There will also be alcohol vendors elsewhere, including Mason’s Yorkshire Gin and Muckle Brewing. There will also be a Newcastle Gin Bar in the center of Sanderson Arcade’s piazza area.

Both the Street Food Quarter and the Posh Pen will be located next to the Live Music Stage so you can enjoy excellent food, a drink and wonderful entertainment!

The free event opens 9am on Saturday 5th, and 10am Sunday 6th October. The main event area can be found on Bridge Street in the town centre, with additional activities in Sanderson Arcade
