The next concert by the Bewick Orchestra continues its tradition of supporting charities and is to be held to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.

  • the song cycle 'Les nuits d'été', by Hector Berlioz
  • and the Sixth Symphony of Schubert.

The soloist in the Berlioz songs will be local soprano Nicola Sugden (details below).

TheBewick Orchestra, based in Morpeth, was formed in 1994 by Michael and Sarah Doswell and conducted by Michael for 20 years. Members come from throughout the region and give their time freely for rehearsals and the concerts.

Tickets (£8, accompanied children FREE) are available from Morpeth Chantry TIC, tel: 01670623455, and at the door.

Nicola Sugden studied part time at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in her twenties before a diverse and successful career in the public sector. She started singing again after illness gave her the impetus to follow her dream of being a soloist. She now studies with Geraldine Cassidy in Leeds and is a regular pupil at the Oxenfoord International Summer School where she has studied with Malcolm Martineau, Ann Murray, Lorna Anderson and Susan Bullock. Nicola became an Associate of Trinity College of Music in 2016, passing the exam with distinction.

In 2018 Nicola studied singing teaching and now takes a small number of private pupils. She sings in the Chorus of the Royal Northern Sinfonia at Sage Gateshead and in the Fenham Ensemble with Simon Davies-Fidler. She has given recitals locally with David Murray and Jonathan Caudle.

Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. It provides information and support, improves care, funds research, and creates lasting change for people affected by dementia.
