Matt Stokes: A Traveller and a ShepherdTake a lighthearted look at the bagpipes in this video installation by artist Matt Stokes...In Summer 2019, Museums Northumberland is thrilled to be sharing some of Northumberland’s most extraordinary hidden stories with you.
Over the past year we have been working closely with artist Matt Stokes to explore and reveal hidden stories from our unique Northumberland museum places, collections and people.
Through this major commission, Stokes’ research has drawn out narrative threads that tie Museums Northumberland’s stories together in unexpected ways.
“A Traveller and a Shepherd” explores the lighter side of Northumberland’s unique musical instruments, the Northumberland pipes, at Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum.
Younger visitors can connect to the themes explored in “A Traveller and a Shepherd” by taking art in our free family arts activity 'Bagpipe Beasties' by Bethan Maddocks.“A Traveller and a Shepherd” is supported by public funding from Arts Council England and Northumberland County Council.
