On the weekend of the 1911 Census Emily Wilding Davison secreted herself in a cupboard in St Mary's Undercroft of the House of Commons so that would be recorded as her residence on the Census from. This play imagines her discovery by a woman cleaner and the subsequent conversation between them. Each, in their own way, being a 'necessary woman'.

Emily Inspires! is thrilled to present this play to coincide with the unveiling of the first ever statue to Emily Wilding Davison. Having toured the south of England and been performed in Parliament to stunning reviews, the play comes to Northumberland after a stint at the Edinburgh Festival.

The performance will be followed by a Q&A session with the actors and Emily Inspires!

Emily Inspires!: Her Past, Our Present, Your Future works to highlight the life and impact of Emily Wilding Davison, the Suffragettes and Suffragists then and now.  For present and future generations to continue building and ensuring equality. We do this through telling the stories of our Suffrage ancestors, highlighting those fighting for equality today and sharing these with the next generation.....
