7pm St James Community Centre, Wellway
Fern, in her sixties, widowed and having lost everything in the recession, embarks on a journey through the American West, living in a campervan as a modern-day nomad. She gradually discovers the warmth of America’s travelling community, helped by inspirational figures such as the charismatic Bob (Bob Wells), one of several non professional actors playing themselves, lending a documentary-style authenticity to the film.
Showered with awards including Oscars and BAFTAs for both best Director (Chloe Zhao), and for best picture, “Frances McDormand is typically convincing as Fern – another indomitable outsider role in which she immerses herself completely, earning her third best actress Oscar.” (The Observer)
Tickets £6, are on sale from 30 August, online at Ticketsource, from The Chantry (card only), or the Town Hall (when reopen). Further details at www.morpethcinema.weebly.com
Morpeth Community Cinema Autumn Season
After a successful Covid secure screening in June, Morpeth Cinema returns for its Autumn season with two screenings per month in September, October and November, to make up for some of the films we have missed during lockdown! The screenings will take place in the newly refurbished St James Centre on Well Way, where the Town Council has installed the latest audio visual equipment including a 4m wide screen and 5 speaker system. We got some excellent feedback about the new venue at our June screening, although attendees are advised to bring a cushion for the seats which have been provided.
For the time being, we are operating at a reduced capacity to allow for socially distanced seating. Face coverings are encouraged, particularly when entering and leaving.
