The programme, to be conducted by Robin Forbes, includes

  • Samuel Barber's evocative Adagio for Strings
  • the Eighth Symphony of Beethoven, and
  • Mendelssohn's ever-popular violin concerto with  Iona Brown, of the Royal Northern Sinfonia as soloist

Tickets (£8, accompanied children FREE) are available from Morpeth Chantry tel: 01670 623455, and at the door.

The Bewick Orchestra, based in Morpeth, was formed in 1994 by Michael and Sarah Doswell and conducted by Michael for 20 years. Sarah still runs the orchestra with help from members and plays in the cello section. Members come from throughout the region and give their time freely for rehearsals and the concerts.

In keeping with the Bewick Orchestra’ commitment to support local charities, this concert is in aid of the Henry Dancer Days charity, which was founded in 2012 in memory of Henry who tragically died from osteosarcoma, aged just 12. Henry’s mother, Jane, founded the charity in 2012 to support children and young people with primary bone cancer. The charity provides grants to the families of children undergoing treatment for primary bone cancer, a rare type of cancer which can lead to unbearable difficulties. The grants provide practical support when it is most needed, with additional support given to those in palliative care.
