Bewick Orchestra in Concert

13 May 2018

7:30pm New Life Christian Centre, Dacre Street, Morpeth

Bewick Orchestra concert in aid of the Wansbeck Valley Food Bank.

Tickets (£8/£5 students) are available from the Chantry TIC, Bridge Street, Morpeth (Tel: 01670 23455) and at the door.

The programme contains three works by well loved composers Mendelssohn, Mozart and Brahms but the works themselves have perhaps never been heard live in Morpeth or the region!

Mendelssohn's overture to 'The Fair Melusine' is rarely performed but does not deserve its unfamiliarity while Mozart's Serenade for eight wind instruments (K.375) contains some of his most memorable and delightful melodies. The major item in the programme is the first of Brahms' two Serenades written for full orchestra. If he had decided to call it a symphony then it would surely be played everywhere and often. This is a rare opportunity to hear this grand work live.

Wansbeck Valley Foodbank began in 2012 when some local churches came together and started operating for a few hours per week in Ashington. They now have about 40 regular volunteers and are open for two hours a day throughout the week serving people from their three bases and delivering parcels that are too big to be collected. They also run a ‘budgeting’ scheme to help people manage their money and a meat-voucher scheme with local butchers. Currently about 30,000 meals are handed out each year to people who are in real need.
